Although their religion prohibits them from eating it, bacon was invented by the Jews.

Let's not forget canadian bacon , which was invented by the swedes.
How would one 'invent' something that's been around before them? Newton didn't invent gravity, he discovered it. And the Jewish were simply the first people to cut up a pig, that doesn't mean some Jewish guy decided to cut open a pig, shove bacon in there, sow it back up and then refuse to eat it.
You could certainly say they "invented" it by being the first to slice it that way. They did it because it made it easier to burn for an "olah" (burnt offering) style qorbanot. An olah is completely burnt on the outer altar; no part of it is eaten by anyone - look it up.
