Although linguists are at a loss to explain why, "dog" is "God" spelled backwards, not only in English, but in every language currently spoken on Earth.

In Swedish God = Gud and Dog = Hund. Neither Dug or Dnuh is actual words. So "every spoken language" is obvious wrong. ;)

This fact is not true for Dutch, French, German, Italian, Potuguese or Spanish - I checked on the Alta Vista Babelfish!

Mr. Serena: while I admire the mission of the undeniable facts blog in stamping out human ignorance, I find it perturbing that people reading it may be misled into believing that wisdom can generally be gleaned from a blog's comments section.

Also, to the naysayers: It is well known that Spanish and Swedish became spoken languages only recently, due to the increasing costs of paper and text messaging, and are still only written languages among the cultural elite, who can afford it. Meanwhile the babel fish software is riddled with errors, and so is not very useful in this case.

Hey josh:
Spanish it's been spoken for over a thousand years, just because you bacame aware of it's existence recently, it doesn't mean that spanish is a new language. Current statistics shows up to 400 million people speak it, making Spanish the most popular Romance language and the second most spoken language by native speakers in the world after Mandarin Chinese. English can only be considered second if we take it's influence in global comerce. Don't make start apeaking about the cultural elite.

Speaking of Mandarin Chinese, how would one define "spelled backward" in languages that are logographic?

French: Dog = Chien, God = Dieu
Spanish: Perro, Dios
German: Hund, Gott

Which languages did you say?

I deny this is a fact.

Dan Serena is an internationally recognized intellectual?

Hey, I know people on 5 continents, so I guess I am too. But I Googled Danny and didn't find anything that would lead to the UNDENIABLE FACT that he's either internationally recognized or an intellectual.

You people have to dig a little more, these terms aren't going to be right at the top on an online dictionary (or what you remember from high-school French or whatever) look - in english we have:
dog
pup
puppy
cur
mongrel
mutt
feist
pooch
hound
tyke
canine
bowwow
weiner
schnitzel
terrier
dane
shepherd
bernese
peavey
...and too many more to mention. Look past the common terms and you will find the reversed term in there somewhere, in every language.
